FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IZOTEX waterproofing membranes consisting of 3 layers (3 Ply). The outer layers are made of special fleeces that increases bonding surface and adhesion performance. Moreover, they physically support the membrane and play important role in terms of strength. On the other hand, the middle layer forms a waterproof and damp-proof layer that protect surfaces against water, moisture and damp. It is the core of the membrane which is supported by outer layers.
IZOTEX waterproofing membranes can be used for bathroom waterproofing, terrace waterproofing, balcony waterproofing, flat roof waterproofing and wet area waterproofing. The areas which will be covered with tiles, natural stones or protective concrete are suitable for waterproof sheet membrane application. In that sense, you can use the membranes both in indoor and outdoor waterproofing applications.
Yes, secure waterproofing can be provided by applying single layer of IZOTEX waterproofing membranes. There is no need to make second layer covering.
IZOTEX Waterproofing Membranes can be applied with adhesives except solvent-based adhesives. Depending on the application area, class C2 tile adhesive (unmodified thin-set mortar), single & double component PU or acrylic based adhesives can be used. Most of the applications are done with unmodified thin-set mortar. Other type of adhesives can be used in joints depending on the conditions and applicator’s choice.
In the application of self-adhesive membrane, the surface should be smooth, dry and free of dust & granular substances. These conditions are valid for all applications.
Yes, IZOTEX waterproofing membranes can be used both indoor and outdoor applications.
At the last step, the waterproof sheet membranes should be covered with ceramic, marble or protective concrete. Ceramic tiles and marbles are bonded over waterproofing sheet membrane with proper adhesive. The protective concrete can be directly poured onto waterproofing membrane after the installation is finished.
No there is back or front side for non-adhesive membranes, since they are covered with the same special fleece on both sides, they represent the same features on back and front.

On the other hand, self-adhesive membrane has adhesive on the single side which is covered with siliconized paper. In order to apply it, the siliconized paper should be removed and then the membrane is bonded to the application area.
When the application of IZOTEX waterproofing membrane is completely finished, you can directly start tiling procedure.

Thin-set mortar requires time to be completely cured yet, it has enough bonding strength to install tile over the membrane.

Our recommendation is to wait until the applied adhesive totally cured/dried and then start the tiling process.
The first thing to consider is the surface condition. The surface should be dry, clean and free of dust to start application. Check the surface before starting.

Secondly, the corners should be secured with IZOTEX inner and outer corner accessories for efficient waterproofing. Complete the waterproofing application of inner & outer corners before the ground and the wall application to not to miss any corner.

Thirdly, during the membrane application be sure that air bubbles are removed. We highly recommend applying pressure to the membrane to ensure adhesion.

Fourthly, don’t forget to seal overlaps with IZOTEX sealing tape or proper chemical.

Fifthly, be aware of creating holes or puncturing during the application.

Finally, don’t forget to cover the membrane with covering materials such as tile, ceramic or protective concrete.
